2024 Torrington Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

The 2024 Torrington Memorial Day Parade will be conducted, rain or shine,

on Monday, May 27, 2024, and will step off promptly at 9:30 AM.

The theme of this year’s Parade is Operation Inherent Resolve.

 

PARADE REGISTRATION

To register your group or organization for the 2024 Torrington Memorial Day Parade, please email the Torrington Veterans Memorial Committee at vetactcom@yahoo.com with "Parade Registration" in the subject line. Please include:

- Your group or organization name
- Whether your group will include marchers, vehicle and/or float

- A contact person, with email and phone number

Parade Regulations:
(1) The United States Flag will be the only national colors to be displayed in the parade.  Post Department and Organizational colors are permissible.

(2) The throwing of candy, or other items, by any parade participant is prohibited.
 

(3) Banners or any displays of a political nature are not allowed.
 

(4) Floats will be of a Memorial Day theme.
 

(5) The distance between units will be 50 feet, and this distance must be maintained by all units throughout the parade.
 

(6) Every unit participating in the parade must appoint a Unit Leader.
 

(7) All Unit Leaders must report to the Division Marshal before the start of the parade.
 

(8) Unit Leaders will be responsible to ensure that the regulations are adhered to by every participant in their Unit throughout the parade.

 

VETERANS INTERESTED IN MARCHING/RIDING

All area veterans and military are invited and encouraged to participate in this year’s Torrington Memorial Day Parade. You may either march or ride in a vehicle.

If you would like to ride in a vehicle, please email Torrington Veterans Memorial Committee at vetactcom@yahoo.com or call the Torrington Veterans Service Office at (860) 489-2531 by May 20, 2024 so we can plan how many vehicles will be needed.

NOMINATIONS FOR HONORARY MARSHALL

Do you know a Veteran who should be honored?

           The Torrington Veterans Memorial Committee is seeking Nominations for Honorary Parade Marshals to be recognized during this year’s Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony. Nominees must be a resident of Torrington, and be willing and able to accept the honor, participate in the Parade, and be recognized during the Ceremony which takes place in Coe Park following the Parade. Posthumous nominations will also be accepted with family member(s) agreeing to participate.
            To nominate a veteran, first confirm with them that if selected to be an Honorary Marshal they are willing and able to accept the honor, participate in the Parade, and be recognized during the Ceremony which takes place in Coe Park following the Parade.     

            Posthumous nominations are also accepted. In this case family member(s) must agree to participate. If they agree, submit the nominee’s name, address, telephone #, and email (if available) along with their branch of service, rank, and the years they served, a brief reason for your nomination, your name and telephone #. Also proof must be provided of the Nominee’s honorable discharge (form DD-214). If chosen, the Honorary Marshal, or someone of their choosing, must provide a short biography of the Honoree’s public, military, and family life for publication in the Memorial Day Ceremony program booklet.
